Narrative

Documentation for Cheysara is complicated because her marriage was illegitimate to the Austrian officials. In this note we review the evidence to connect Cheysara (mother of Jonas) to Sara (daughter of Bernard).

We know from marriage record of Jonas that her husband was Elkan Felber. In the Straznice birth registers, we find five birth records in which the mother is Cheysara or Sara Mandler and the father is unrecorded. One cannot say for sure that these are all the same mother, since the Mandler family in Straznice was large. However, looking further back in the birth records, we find only a single Sara Mandler born between 1800-1820. Furthermore, the first son of Elkan and Sara is named Herschl (the name of Elkan's father) and the second son is named Bernard (the presumed name of Sara's father).
