Parksville — The Paramount Hotel — a near century-old landmark of the glory days of the old Sullivan County Borscht Belt — may soon rise from the ashes of fire and bankruptcy.

A corporation dubbed S.A.T. Catskill has agreed to buy the hotel, which was destroyed by a fire in October 2000, for $4.25 million, according to records filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in White Plains. The property has been tied up in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings since May 2003.

The court approved the sale in March, said Monticello lawyer Peter Ng, who represents the buyer. The deal must be closed before a court-ordered May 17 deadline.

"The bankruptcy court has approved the sale — I don't see any impediments at this time," said Ng, who said it was "premature" to discuss details of the project.
